Hurricane Michael Will Hit Parts of Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina

Hurricane Michael is expected to be a major storm when it arrives at Florida's Gulf Coast on Wednesday. After moving ashore, it will head northeastward toward Georgia and South Carolina.

According to WSBTV News, Hurricane Michael is moments away from making landfall in Florida near the Panama City area. Tonight going into Thursday evening the hurricane could possibly have winds up to 145 mph, and a storm surge up to 13 feet. After the storm continues through Florida, it is expected move towards middle parts of Georgia on Thursday. Tropical Storm Warnings have been issued for counties in Georgia, including: Upson, Lamar, Jasper, Putnam, Morgan, Greene and Oglethorpe counties. Georgia is expected to see at least 4 to 7 inches of rain, with wind speeds up to 70 mph. By Friday morning, the wind speeds will have calmed to 45 mph going into South Carolina.
​Florida’s Governor, Rick Scott has demanded residents evacuate immediately after reporting that this hurricane is one of the most deadly storms to date. Rick Scott spoke out on Twitter this morning and shared his final suggestions to residents, “The time for evacuating along the coast has come and gone. First responders will not be able to come out in the middle of the storm. If you chose to stay in an evacuation zone, you must SEEK REFUGE IMMEDIATELY.” AJC reported that Georgia’s own Atlanta Motor Speedway has opened up their campgrounds for Hurricane Michael evacuees. The speedway’s campgrounds are located in Henry County. Camping spots will be available free of charge for dry RV and tent campers in the Legends Campground.
