Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have officially denounced their royal titles but continue to do their part to aid international commonwealth countries.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are teaming up with World Central Kitchen, founded by chef Jose Andres. On Wednesday, Andres announced their partnership via Instagram. The couple’s nonprofit, Archewell Foundation, will fund the construction of community relief centers in regions around the world heavily impacted by climate disasters.
Recently, the organization finished the construction of its first centers in Dominica. The center, located in a school, was built under Dominica’s climate resiliency plan. In case of an emergency, the center will serve as a safe shelter with kitchen equipment installed.
The organization also plans on launching a culinary training program at the center. The program will equip chefs with the skillset to prepare meals for large numbers of people in an emergency.
On Friday, Buckingham Palace announced that the couple has decided not to return to their royal roles. As part of stepping down from their titles, they will no longer keep their patronages. This means they will no longer be involved in various U.K. charities.
Previously, the couple served on the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust. Prince Harry served as the President while Markle was the Vice President. In a statement, the organization stated they were “lucky” to have worked with the couple.

“They enabled us to make fast progress and have helped us to take the organisation to readiness for its next phrase,” they wrote praising the couple’s work ethic. “We are glad they remain in our circle of supporters.”
The palace’s statement regarding the couple stepping away from their royal ties states, “it is not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service.”
The couple quickly responded, saying, “We can all live a life of service. Service is universal.”
