BET has announced a special tribute to honor rap icon, DMX, produced by longtime friend Swizz Beatz, to air during Sunday night’s BET Awards 2021.
The tribute will include performances from some of the biggest names in Hip Hop, such as Busta Rhymes, Method Man, Swizz Beatz, and Griselda, including a special appearance by Michael K Williams.
“We look forward to celebrating DMX’s indelible mark in music and pop culture,” says Connie Orlando, Executive Vice President of Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy, says in a statement. “DMX inspired fans around the world with his signature raspy voice, the delivery of raw emotion through his lyrics and performances, and his giving spirit. We are proud to pay our respects to a hip-hop legend on our biggest stage, the BET Awards.
The New York Native DMX sold over 74 million records worldwide throughout his career, as stated in the press release. The hip hop legend also received 14 platinum RIAA certifications within America solely. According to a press release, DMX is still the only artist in history to enter both the Billboard 200 and top R&B/Hip Hop charts with #1 debuts for five consecutive albums.
Tune in to the BET Awards on Sunday, June 27th at 8 pm EST to witness Swizz Beatz pay homage to the legacy of one of “the greatest rappers of all time,“ DMX.
