The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) will be hosting its 32nd annual Rhythm & Soul Awards on Thursday June 20th in Los Angeles. According to Variety, Motown records and Atlanta rapper T.I is set to be honored at the ceremony. In celebration of its 60th Anniversary , Motown records will be presented with the ‘Rhythm and Soul’ Heritage Award , awarded to those who have a major impact within the rhythm and soul music genre.
“We are so pleased to celebrate Motown records first 60 years with ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Heritage Award…From its humble beginnings to its reputation as the birthplace of soul, funk and R&B, , Motown records has evolved into a legendary institution that is home to some of the greatest musical talents of the last century” states ASCAP chairman of the board and president Paul Williams in a press release. Motown artist will also be taking the stage for a special performance.
The music organization will also be debuting its inaugural ASCAP Voice of the Culture Award to T.I who has been a powerhouse in the industry when it comes to music and speaking out on social injustice within the culture. “T.I has conquered the world of music ,TV and film , helping to popularize a new sub-genre of music in the process” says Williams. “His significant contributions to hip-hop music , support for other artists through his record label, Philanthropy, community activism and memorable onscreen roles have had a profound impact on today’s music and culture. There is no one more deserving to receive the inaugural ASCAP voice of the culture award.”
Other awards to be presented at the 2019 ASCAP Awards include ASCAP Songwriter of the Year, Publisher of the Year , Top R&B/ Hip-Hop Song , Top Rap Song and Top Gospel Song .
