Ellen guest appeared on the Netflix talk show, “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction”, hosted by David Letterman. DeGeneres brought up that when she was 15 or 16 she was sexually assaulted by her stepfather. Ellen talked about her mother, Betty DeGeneres, marrying her stepfather referring to him as a “bad guy” and her thoughts on it.

Quoted from ENews , “That’s another thing that, you know, I’m angry at myself because …I was too weak to stand up – I was 15 or 16 and ..  I mean, it’s a really horrible, horrible story and the only reason I’m actually gonna go into detail about It is because I want other girls to not, you know, ever let someone do that”, Ellen explained to David Letterman.

The talk show star went on to explain that her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer having to get one breast removed right after her and her stepfather got married.

“ .. anyway he convinced me that he needed to feel my breasts and then he tries to do it again, another time, and then another time” said Ellen.

Ellen then went into how one day her mother was out of town and her stepfather convinced her that he needed to check her breasts for any lumps. He proceeded to ask multiple times.

“He tried to break down my door, and I kicked the window and ran cause I knew what he was gonna do – it was gonna go more to something.”, Ellen stated.

Ellen didn’t want to upset her mother, which made her not want to tell her about the incident so she kept it to herself for years, and when she finally told her mother, her mother did not believe her. Her stepfather told Betty, Ellen’s mother, that she was lying which lead her mother to stay with him for another 18 years, leaving Ellen highly upset. Betty then left him after those 18 years, because he had changed the story so many times.

Ellen then went on to state, “ … there’s so many young girls, and it doesn’t matter how old you are, and when I see people speaking out, especially now, it angers me when victims aren’t believed because we just don’t make this stuff up ….. It’s just time for us to have a voice. It’s time for us to have power.”

The second season of “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman” will premiere on Netflix, Friday May 31.
