Zaya Wade walked her first red carpet along the side of Dwayne Wade and Gabrielle Union. 12-year-old Zaya appeared at the Better Brothers Los Angeles 2020 Truth Awards on this past Saturday. This was the sixth Annual Truth Awards which honors the achievement within the black LGBTQ community. Recently, Wade shared his daughter came out as transgender and since then, he has been vocal and showed support for Zaya.
In an Instagram post Dwayne captioned “Everyone allow her to re-introduce herself her name is Zaya Wade!”
In February, Gabrielle invited people to “meet Zaya” for the first time in a video posted to Twitter, in which the pre-teen discusses the importance of being who you are. During the speech at the awards, Dwayne commented on Zaya’s transition and how they came together as a family through her journey.
Dwayne said, “From working closely with Zaya to design her room in our homes to make sure that her most authentic self was represented and that her bedroom felt like her sanctuary. Now, that may seem small, but taking the time to make sure Zaya felt seen and heard as she created her own space for us was key. It was key to Zaya’s comfort and her confidence.”
Dwayne, Gabrielle, and Zaya color coordinated on the red carpet. Zaya black boots, black pants, and a green tuxedo jacket. Dwayne and Zaya also accessorized with matching sapphire necklaces. Zaya and Gabrielle finished their looks with matching rings.
Zaya walked the red carpet with so much confidence, poise, and style.
