Founders of Cash Money Records Bryan “Birdman” Williams and his brother Ronald “Slim” Williams donated over $225,000 to Forward Together New Orleans, a non-profit organization that is helping families during the COVID-19 pandemic. The organization plans to cover June rent for tenants living in Scattered Sites Harmony Oaks, Marrero Commons, and Guste communities in Uptown New Orleans, Louisiana.
According to Complex, these housing projects were formerly known as Magnolia, Calliope, and Melpomene.
In April 2020, Birdman originally planned to donate in May but moved it to June once everything was finalized.
Slim said in a press conference that “New Orleans made us and is part of who we are.We are devastated that this pandemic is hitting our community there so hard and we are committed to doing what we can to help now and in the long term.”
While Birdman talks about the importance of giving back to his community, he made it clear that New Orleans holds a special place in his heart. “The legacy of Cash Money belongs to the city of New Orleans. There’s nothing more important to us than giving back to the brothers and sisters who live on those same streets we grew up on – from musicians to service workers to everyday working families.”
Another way that Birdman plans to help out is by teaming up with local iHeartMedia stations like Q93, and WYLD and giving away $100 gift cards to listeners.
Complex reports that Louisiana has temporarily suspended evictions and the stoppage of utility services due to the coronavirus outbreak.
