Notorious singer Aaliyah has left an impact on the music world. Event years after her passing, we still receive messages that shake the world. Aaliyah’s estate released a message to those who have tried to release unauthorized projects about the late star.
Just last year we heard great news that music labels we’re bringing her catalog of music to streaming services. These services include Apple Music and Spotify. Although this has been the hope since the announcement, some things have not followed through.
Background Records 2.0 recently made an announcement on the site Aaliyahiscoming.com. “Protecting Aaliyah’s legacy is, and will always be, our focus,” reads a recent post from the estate’s verified Twitter account. “For 20 years we have battled behind the scenes, enduring shadowy tactics of deception with unauthorized projects targeted to tarnish,” the estate wrote. “We have always been confused as to why there is such a tenacity in causing more pain alongside what we already have to cope with for the rest of our lives.” They continued, “This unscrupulous endeavor to release Aaliyah’s music without any transparency or full accounting to the estate compels our hearts to express a word – forgiveness.”
