Alicia Keys received the Impact award at this year’s 2019 Billboard Women in Music Awards. With all the work she’s been doing behind the scenes for women in the industry, this award was rightfully deserved. Keys is on a mission to get more women in the music industry paid with her organization “She is the Music”. SITM is a non-profit organization striving towards increasing the number of women working in music. This includes songwriters, engineers, producers, artists and industry professionals.
On the red carpet of the Billboard Women in Music Awards, Keys talks about how she manifested her vision for SITM and the ways her organization has provided many opportunities for women.
Just last year at the Billboard Women in Music Awards, Keys introduced her plans for her SITM organization and now she says the organization is doing so well she can’t even believe it. “Can you believe just one year ago today we were able to come here and talk about She Is the Music and now all the women and Executives and creatives that are behind it and believe in it and are really putting their foot forward to create opportunities for other women.”
Keys also talks how women were impacted by the recent writers camp her organization hosted just days before the awards. “We just finished this dope Amex writers camp yesterday, it was fire. All the writers, engineers, producers killing it, I mean there’s so much that’s coming and so much that’s happening. I’m so glad to be back again and for it to have grown so much.” Congrats to Alicia Keys for all she has accomplished for women in the industry!
