Billboard’s 14th annual “Women in Music” awards is definitely a special event to be treasured in the music industry. In an industry mainly dominated by men, it is especially nice to have talented ladies in music get recognized for their contributions and talents. This year the event is returning to Los Angeles and according to Billboard, the Women in Music Awards is a celebratory event coordinated to acknowledge the top women in music. Its main award is titled Woman of the Year, established to recognize “women in the music industry who have made significant contributions to the business and who, through their work and continued success, inspire generations of women to take on increasing responsibilities within the field”. Let’s just say, Billboard was definitely not playing this year and honored many women in the music industry who continue to inspire us with their different genres, styles and individuality. Here are some honorable mentions of artists who will be recognized at this years event.

Our H-town hottie, Megan the Stallion, will be receiving the Powerhouse Award. “I am very excited, I am very honored and I just want to say thank y’all so much.” Megan replied on the carpet of the 2019 American Music Awards. Alicia Keys will be honored with the American Express Impact Award due to her work with “She is the Music”. She Is The Music is an industry wide movement to empower female creators. The organization is committed to driving inclusivity and equality for women no matter how they choose to creatively express themselves.

Rosalia is a Spanish singer and songwriter being honored with the Rising Star award. Let’s not forget other major honorees like Taylor Swift (who will be honored with Woman of the Decade), Billie Elish, Alanis Morisette, Nicki Minaj and so many more. Also, don’t think you only have to create music to get honored; Roc Nation’s very own Chief Operating officer, Desiree Perez, is known to be a great manager and tough negotiator for her clients. Her work with the label has left her well known in the music industry. This year the awards will be hosted by last year’s rising star honoree, Hayley Kiyoko. The return of this award ceremony every year shows that women can still roll with the big dogs. The event and red carpet pre-show will stream live from the Hollywood Palladium on Dec. 12 at YouTube.com/Billboard starting at 9 p.m. ET.
