November 7th is a night the community of Thousand Oaks, California will always remember. An ex-marine, Ian David Long, who was 28 years old came to local spot Borderline Bar & Grill and was armed with a Glock 21 .45 caliber, extended magazine and a smoke device. Long burst into the bar dressed in black at around 11:20 p.m. and opened fire. His first victim was the front desk worker.
The first 911 phone call was reported at 11:20 p.m. said by Sheriff Dean. At about 11:26 p.m. Sargent Ron Helus and CHP arrived on the scene and as they made their way into the bar Long began shooting. Helus was hit several times and died at the hospital early this morning. Eleven more were killed on the scene of the incident and 18 more injured. Many of the people who attended the night of the fatal shooting were residents at the Cal Lutheran College, and some were simply residents that just went to have a good time. The police are saying they do not believe it was a terrorist attack and that the shooter had a severe case of PTSD and was known by the community.
Many of the victims had recalled recent events with a man shooting his wife and attempting to kill himself. This community was shaken by the devastation of last nights recent events, and we hope that the families can get through this.
