The annual BET Awards premiered on Sunday, June 28 from the comfort of our homes. This year the award show celebrated their 20th year in production and set out to make it a special one. Due to Covid-19, things had to be a little different this year. The award show went virtual, which opened the doors for many possibilities for viewers everywhere. Here is a full rundown on how the night went.
Amanda Seales hosted the show via green screen, giving us outfit changes and different backgrounds accompanied with her witty (but real) humor.
The elite production of the show really shined through as the BET team had to find new ways to entertain the audience in a creative way. No other award show has pushed this boundary before.
Performances included YG, Public Enemy (with Flava Flav), Nas, Rapsody, Black Thought, Questlove, John Legend, D Smoke, SiR, Lonr., Roddy Rich, Megan Thee Stallion, Da Baby, Jennifer Hudson, Summer Walker, Usher, Masego, Wayne Brady, Alicia Keys, Chloe x Halle, Karen Clark, Kierra Sheard and Kane Brown.
We cannot forget Lil Wayne, who gave use a heart warming tribute in honor of the late Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna Bryant who died in a helicopter crash earlier this year.

Beyonce received the 2020 Humanitarian Award in light of her work in the Black Lives Matter movement and many other organizations. Former First Lady, Michelle Obama, presenter her with her award.
“I am here to talk about the Queen. You know the one,” Following the introduction, BET showed a montage summarizing Bey’s charity, including her philanthropic efforts through BeyGood.
BET hopes to get back to regular scheduled programing next yer. In a statement they said, ‘Til next year. Hopefully, we’ll be back to regularly scheduled red carpets and stadium venues.”
