Nayvadius DeMun Wilburn, better known by his stage name, Future, is an award-winning American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, and philanthropist. Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, Future understands the powerful and lasting impact that people can gain when they feel nurtured and heard in their community. So he co-founded the Freewishes Foundation with his mom, Stephanie Jester, and sister, Tia Wilburn-Anderson. Together with the Foundation, they can fulfill their mission “to provide educational support, health and wellness, and transitional services to the community to empower them to be self-sufficient and allow their dreams to come alive.” This April, the Freewishes Foundation has two reveals for the community: Columbia High School’s weight room renovation and Forest Park, Georgia’s community Easter egg hunt extravaganza.
This month’s introductory momentous event of the foundations will be the official reveal of their completed renovation of Columbia High School’s weight room. This reveal strikes an even more sentimental chord with Future and his family, as this is the same high school and unchanged weight room they initially attended. “Columbia has had the same weight room since I attended there,” says Tia, community engagement director of Freewishes. “Since our Foundation is huge on health and wellness, it was important for us to help create an environment for students in which they could be comfortable, have pride, and perform their best. Also, research shows that physically active students tend to excel academically and have better attendance. They are also less likely to struggle with depression and other mental health issues,” Tia shares. Therefore, the Freewishes Foundation selflessly decided to take action in helping renovate the weight room in partnership with Foot Locker Atlanta. The Foundation is eagerly looking forward to presenting the final reveal to students on April 15.
Immediately following the height of the big reveal is the traditional game of hiding and seeking Easter eggs in the foundation’s community Easter egg hunt extravaganza. “A lot of people were isolated since covid, and this is our chance to re-connect everyone and allow them to enjoy. As a result, we are all better together,” adds Tia.
On Saturday, April 16, 2022, the Foundation is presenting a spectacular Easter Egg Hunt Extravaganza for the metro Atlanta community in conjunction with the city of Forest Park, GA. Freewishes is inviting kids to an “eggstraordinary” fun in the sun during the city of Forest Park’s annual spring fest at Kiwanis Stadium. This year’s jam-packed event will feature several outdoor activities, including bounce houses, face painting, horseback riding, a mechanical bull, food, giveaways, and much more. “Our goal with this community-wide event is to bring people from all walks of life together to have a fun-filled day and strengthen the bonds between them,” says Future.
