Gladys Knight and Patti LaBelle Made Verzuz a Night of Nostalgia

What started off as just a recommendation from social media from Verzus fans has now become a reality. On Sunday, Patti LaBelle and Gladys Knight were the latest artists featured in the Verzuz “battle” on Instagram Live.

Organizers of Verzuz, Swizz Beatz and Timbaland, created a legendary night for the books as both of these powerhouses have been in the game singing for over 60 years. There was a long list of classics to choose from.

This battle was a little different compared to other Verzuz events. While the others gave us more of a battle between to artists (eventually declaring a winner by fans), this Verzuz was more laid back and displayed the care between two long time friends. They loved and supported one another, while harmonizing to each others music. In the pleasant words of LaBelle, “Hey sister, go sister, soul sister, go sister.”

“We are so happy to be together,” LaBelle said as they opened up the event, “We’ve been together for many, many, many years.”

Knight, 77, and LaBelle, 76, showed us time and time again why they are legends in the game, much to the excitement of fans watching on Instagram, Youtube, and Apple Music. Not only did we enjoy a night of soul music but also engaged in pleasant banter between the two ladies about their careers, culinary skills, and the importance of the 2020 election. There was even a shootout to the LGBTQIA community from Ms. LaBelle, who she credits on why she is “still standing”.

Knight sang hits like “Midnight Train to Georgia” and her James Bond movie theme “Licence to Kill.” LaBelle sang her version of “Over the Rainbow” and “If You Asked Me To.”

The women wrapped up the evening with a surprise appearance by their contemporary and friend, singer Dionne Warwick. Thank you ladies for a night of love and sisterhood!
