The Atlanta music scene has become an undeniable force in hip-hop, with its influence spanning decades and shaping not only the genre but also the culture surrounding it. At this year’s One Musicfest, Greg Street, legendary radio personality and cultural curator, brought together an energetic lineup on the Sprite Stage, reminding fans of Atlanta’s rich musical legacy. With performances from icons like Scrappy, Trillville, Crime Mob, YoungBloodZ, Travis Porter, Young Dro, and more
In the early 2000s, Atlanta was known not just for innovation but for defining entire subgenres within hip-hop. The crunk movement, led by artists like Lil Jon, Scrappy, and Crime Mob, took over airwaves and dance floors across the country. Crunk, with its high-energy beats and call-and-response lyrics, turned Atlanta clubs into cultural landmarks. Songs like “Knuck If You Buck” by Crime Mob and “No Problem” by Scrappy became anthems, representing a gritty, unapologetic style that resonated with a generation.
“Crunk music is a lifestyle and the energy,” Scrappy tells JaGurl TV. Scrappy continued, “Memphis which is Triple Six Mafia and everybody that come from that era, they created crunk and Atlanta manifested it, you know what I’m saying, and made it like pop culture.”
Atlanta’s impact on hip-hop is unmistakable. The city has consistently produced groundbreaking music, and through sets like the one Greg Street curated at One Musicfest, Atlanta’s influence on hip-hop continues to be celebrated.
