On June 7, 2020, BET used their platform to engage their audience in continuing the dialogue about social justice and community change. BET aired a new special titled “JUSTICE NOW: A BET Town Hall,” which was hosted by Marc Lamont Hill. #JusticeNowBET gave viewers a chance to talk race, global health, and the politics behind it all on there social medias during the virtual “town hall” meeting.
Tensions are at an all time high for many people as we live through a constantly changing climate due to the global pandemic and state-to-state protests. We are watching history take place right in front our eyes. According to BET, “The special was aimed at addressing police violence, recent protests and the COVID-19 health crisis.”
The special included virtual interviews with a diverse guest panel featuring politicians, activists, and public figures. This included former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, Color of Change President Rashad Robinson, activist and cofounder of Campaign Zero Brittany Packnett, Rutgers University scholar Brittney Cooper, Princeton University Scholar Imani Perry and more.
