Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff handed out Valentine’s day cookies to frontline workers during a surprise visit to DC.
On Saturday, the couple made an unexpected visit to Washington D.C. VA Medical Center. There they met newly appointed VA Secretary Dennis McDonough and his wife Karl. Together the couples handed out baskets of Valentine’s day cookies to healthcare workers within the facility.
Each individually wrapped cookie came with a heartfelt note. “Have a sweet Valentine’s Day! We appreciate you. Kamala & Doug” the note read according to People.
Along with the treats, Harris expressed her gratitude for the healthcare workers.
“We are so grateful for you,” Harris tells the frontline workers, reported by People.
Emhoff shared a photo from their surprise visit on Instagram.
“This Valentine Day weekend, our hearts are with the health care heroes working around-the-clock to support our country during this difficult time,” he writes. “I’m so glad Veterans Affairs Secretary Denis McDonough and Karl McDonough could join us as we thanked the hardworking staff at the DC VA Medical Center.”
