Keisha Knight Pulliam Opens Up About Her Nana’s Battle with Breast Cancer

BET Her Fights: Breast Cancer airs tomorrow on BET. The show aims to bring awareness to breast cancer and encourage early detection. Hosted by Wendy Raquel Robinson, stars came out for a night of moving testimony and uplifting performances. JaGurl TV spoke with Keisha Knight-Pulliam on the pink carpet, who shared this about her grandmother’s breast cancer diagnosis:

“We caught it really, really early. It’s so important for us to get the word out. As black women, we need to make sure that we are a head of our health and making it a priority. We are the first people to take care of everyone else, but we have to realize that you can’t pour from an empty cup. A big part of that is preventative healthcare.”

We asked what advise she would give to someone who was just diagnosed with breast cancer. She answered, “Its not a death sentence first and foremost. Now there are so many amazing treatments. It’s about getting in there, getting aggressive; only from a medical standpoint but from a wholistic standpoint. Make sure you stay in positivity and know that all is well.”

The special honors 10 year breast cancer survivor Vanessa Bell Calloway and more airing tomorrow night at 8pm/7C on BET.
