R&B singer Kiana Lede has released the deluxe version of her debut album, Kiki, the singer explains how the transparency in her music has given her strength.
“The biggest thing that I’ve learned about myself, the most beautiful thing about myself and what I think people can relate to, is that vulnerability can be strength,” Lede tells Angie B on the Beat during virtual press conference for the 2020 Soul Train Awards, “being open and honest about my own fears or my own past, or whatever it is using that as a weapon for myself.”
In an interview with BET, Lede expressed that freedom of expression is one of the special characteristics that make R&B so relatable.
“One of the most beautiful things about R&B is that it is really honest music and it will make you feel so many different emotions,” says Lede. “And being someone who can feel something from positive 10 to negative 10, R&B makes me feel right at home.”
The singer compares soul music to soul food, stating “soul music just has so much spirit, it has so much love. I feel like when my aunty is cooking for me that’s what soul music is!” she says giggling.
Be sure to tune into the Soul Train Awards this Sunday, November 29th at 8pm to see more from the youthful singer and catch performances from Brandy, Ella Mai, CeeLo Green, Monica, and many more!
