Killer Mike’s New Campaign Encourages Precaution During COVID-19

Atlanta native rap artist, Killer Mike, is urging people to take the pandemic seriously. He teamed up with Dekalb CEO, Micheal Thurmond, to deliver a message to residents; specifically targeting the young African Americans in the community. His goal is to educate the community on how to keep themselves healthy during the confusing times of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Killer Mike and Michael Thurmond are also sending a message to other vulnerable demographic groups such as Hispanic and Asian communities in the near future. The campaign is currently being advertised on the radio, billboards, and in print ads to reach as many people as possible.

“Don’t worry about the bigwigs in Washington and what they say. Let’s follow our local CEO. Let’s stay out of them streets. Take it from Mike and Mike. Stay home if you can. Mask up, if you can’t.”

One issue that COVID-19 challenges in African American communities is that the younger generation living in multigenerational homes can expose their loved ones. Videos on social media have been circulating of people having large gatherings and not taking social distancing precautions, despite the warning of government officials. In the efforts to directly encourage people to take the necessary measures and to take COVID-19 seriously in minority communities, Killer Mike is using his voice to spread awareness.
