The LeBron James Family Foundation invest its time, resources, and attention in the kids of LeBron’s hometown of Akron, Ohio. Through these resources Lebron James birthed his ‘I Promise’ program in 2018, the foundation that serves more than 1,400 Akron-area students by providing them with the programs, support, and mentors they need to succeed in school and other passions. Now on the Los Angeles Lakers, the athlete surprised his students with the major tool of education by giving his graduating class a full ride to Kent State.
“On Wednesday, he made a major announcement, revealing that the inaugural graduating class of students in the I Promise program will receive free tuition to Kent State, located in Kent, Ohio, for four years, if they choose to go there. The students already had the same offer, as part of the program, at the University of Akron.”, according to CBS Sports.
The foundations Twitter page posted a video saying, “When you show up to @KentState for your 11th grade experience outing, but find out you’re also getting FREE tuition for 4 years AND a year of free room & board!!”
The school stated the only requirement students need to remain eligible are to continue their good academic standing and participate in community service. James expresses his pride by saying, “I just know that so many kids in my community just don’t have many options. For me to be able to be in a position to give these kids options to decide what they want to do with their future, it’s probably the best thing I’ve ever done.”
Thank you LeBron James for being a great asset to our community.
