On Sunday, September 15, the beautiful grounds of Chukkar Farms in Alpharetta, Georgia, came alive with purpose and passion during the 3rd Annual Dinner at Dusk Polo Classic Legacy philanthropy event. Curated by the inspiring Maja Sly, an Affordable Housing Advocate and Serial Entrepreneur, this year’s gathering brought together a community dedicated to uplifting and celebrating the accomplishments of Black women.

Maja Sly, known for her impactful “Power of One” ideology, champions the notion that a single connection, idea, or person can profoundly alter the trajectory of a life. As a first-generation college graduate and a successful small business owner, Maja embodies the power of perseverance and community. Dressed in a stunning bespoke metallic brocade dress paired with an ostrich feather bolero designed by Tristan Blake, Maja graced the event with elegance and authority.

“I established Dinner at Dusk so that Black female students, entrepreneurs and business executive leaders can connect and thrive together,” states Maja. “The professional women at the event, including guests and honorees, are change makers helping to break down the barriers that Black women too often face in education, homeownership, entrepreneurship and employment.”

Maja expressed to JaGurl TV the importance of creating spaces where Black women can embrace their identities. “I love to be able to showcase and be in a space where people really own who they are and walk in their authority. They are not afraid to be loud, proud, and outspoken about the things that matter to them.”

This year’s notable honorees were New Birth Missionary Baptist Church Pastor of Cardiology Dr. Karri Turner, Watson Realty Co. Broker Quiana Watson, The Good Men Club Founder and former Black Love Host Jack A. Daniels, Life Coach and Reinvention Strategist Marshawn Daniels, Atlanta Public School Board At-Large Member Alfred Brooks, Decorative Artist, Design Expert and TV Personality Tobey Renee Sanders, Georgia State Representative Inga Willis, Hair and Beauty Entrepreneur Tahira Joy, Travis Williams and Community Curator Braxton Simpson and HGTV’s Flipping Virgins and Property Virgins Host Egypt Sherrod.

Egypt Sherrod, a powerhouse in real estate and design runs multiple successful television shows, shared her journey of resilience and faith with JaGurl TV. She recalled moving to Georgia with her husband and newborn, armed only with hope and determination. “We only knew a handful of people; we had God’s word and we had a plan. Twelve years later, I mean, look!”

Egypt’s words resonate deeply, urging black women to pursue success with confidence and relentless execution. She emphasized the need for Black women to celebrate themselves. “As Black women, we have been the mule of society for far too long. We’ve done it all to hold everybody else up. If no one else is going to celebrate us, it’s up to us.”

The 3rd Annual Dinner at Dusk Polo Classic Legacy was not just an event, it was a movement—a celebration of Black womanhood, resilience, and community. Maja Sly reminded us of the importance of honoring our stories and lifting each other up.
