‘Martin’ Sitcom Cast Will Get Together for a Long Awaited Reunion Special on BET+

Can anyone else believe that it has been 30 years since the beginning of the hit television show, Martin? Shows creator Martin Lawrence is gearing up the remaining cast to celebrate the same show that showered them with acting success. Tisha Campbell, Tichina Arnold, and Carl Anthony Payne II are expected to join the comedian and host, Affion Crockett, for the event on Bet+. We sadly will be missing the actor who portrayed one of Martin’s best friends on the show, Thomas Mikal Ford, died in 2016 at the age of 52 years old.

This reunion has come as a pleasant surprise to long time fans. “To be able to sit here 30 years later with this amazing cast that has had such an impact on pop culture is truly a blessing,” Lawrence said. “I am always humbled that the fans still want more of the show and its characters. I am looking forward to the reunion special.”

It has also been teased that we may be in for a bigger surprise as there will be more guests to join. The show ran from 1992-1997 and hosted a plethora of guests who can make a pop up appearance. According to PopCulture, there’s also a chance Lawrence may make an appearance as one of the various characters he used to play on the show. Despite fans being on the edge of their seats waiting to find out what these surprises are, it is set in stone that there will be cast interviews, behind the scene show commentary, and musical performances.

Martin is one of the most beloved sitcoms in our community, both because it is hugely entertaining and because it played a pivotal role in changing the narrative of Black voices in entertainment and in culture through the portrayal of young, ambitious Black leads and healthy Black relationships,” said Scott Mills, CEO of BET. “Decades later, that representation is still just as important, which is why we’re so excited to honor a series that put Black culture front and center on our platform that embraces Black culture every day.”

Taping will take place February 20 and the special will air later this year.
