Meek Mill becoming Co-Owner of Lids

Referring to 2019 as his “boss year” Meek Mill has definitely achieved that with a new addition to his resume.

Meek Mill is known for his skills as a rapper, criminal justice reform activist and knows a corporate business owner. In an exclusive interview with Business Insider, on Wednesday week Mill, whose real name is Robert Williams, announced he will become co-owner of Lids and lead the company’s creative strategy.

“I’ve always been a fan of Lids — growing up, I remember buying their hats to match my outfits and look my best,” Mill said in an online statement. “It’s amazing to see my relationship with the brand come full-circle and have the opportunity to evolve as a businessman. We have a great team in place and we’re looking forward to taking Lids to new heights.”

Lids are North America’s largest retail seller of hats and licensed sports products. His plans for the future of the business include using his leverage as a rapper to incorporate more of the black culture such as hip-hop into Lids and bringing the two together even more.

Meek’s source of inspiration comes from billionaire rapper Jay-Z.

“He’s just a different type of guy, says Mill He built businesses, and he built things that made him become the man who he is, that we could call a billionaire guy. He built that, and I watched that, and I studied that. That’s why I’m working the way I’m working now to build a foundation for myself too.”

In August, Meek Mill will be dropping his first piece of merchandise as co-owner a limited-edition line of Lids hats which will be the first of many to come.
