Megan Thee Stallion Credits Her Confidence To Female Influences in Her Family

Megan Thee Stallion, who’s real name is Megan Pet, is quickly becoming a household name as she continues to climb the charts and set trends. In a recent interview with NME she opened up about the woman in her life who have influenced her, and played a part into building her confidence.

Megan, like many other females in hip-hop, had to break through stereotypes and labels that could make any woman question her confidence and worry about what other people think. With female influences like her mother, and grandmother, Megan has managed to overlook criticism and be true to herself. “I had really good examples of women in my life and they always put it in like, ‘Megan, you’re amazing… You’re doing so good’. That came from my father too. I didn’t know anything else from birth. Now I’m grown, it’s like, what can anybody tell me?” Megan stated, “I already feel like I’m the shit so if you say otherwise, you crazy ’cause my momma said I was beautiful! So I must be beautiful!”

Needless to say, Megan is just like any girl in the world, and with being a woman comes imperfections. “I don’t want anybody to perceive me as perfect,” she explains. “Girl, I be waking up and I do not be feeling it sometimes. Sometimes I might bust out crying – I go through it too!”

With social media it can be a struggle to build confidence, which makes Megan goes harder in her lyrics to bring that sense of joy and hot girl fun. “Whatever lyric is your favourite – maybe it’s ‘I’m that bitch / Been that bitch / Still that bitch’ – I want everybody to feel the way I feel.”

Megan is truly setting the tone for females in hip-hop and is continuing to be a trailblazer in any room she walks into.
