This past week a handful of celebrities have donated to organizations fighting for social justice and racial equality, Micheal Jordan is no exception. On Friday June 5, the NBA legend and entrepreneur alongside his Jordan brand company donated $100 million dollars.
The corporation released a statement following their generous contribution. “The Jordan Brand is us, the Black community. Jordan Brand is more than one man. It’s always been a family. We represent a proud family that has overcome obstacles, fought against discrimination in communities worldwide and that works every day to erase the stain of racism and the damage of injustice.”
The statement also says, “Today, we are announcing that Michael Jordan and the Jordan Brand will be donating $100 million over the next 10 years to organizations dedicated to ensuring racial equality, social justice and greater access to education.”
This announcement followed former Reddit co-founder Alex Ohanian’s $1 million donation to Colin Kaepernick’s Know Your Rights organization. According to BET, Ohanian resigned from Reddit’s board earlier in the day, because he wanted to make room for a black executive.
