The happiest place on earth is now shaking the room. It has been announced that iconic Disney character, Minnie Mouse, will be sporting a different look in honor of Disneyland Paris’ 30th anniversary celebration. The beloved character usually rocks her classic red and white polkadot dress; which can come in a variation of colors based on the time of year. According to ABC 7 news, for the first time she will be wearing a vibrant pantsuit created by British designer Stella McCartney.
The new ensemble includes matching blue and black polka dot pants, a blazer and a big bow. “I am delighted to be working with the one, the only, the iconic Minnie Mouse,” McCartney shared in a statement. “Minnie has always had a special place in my heart. We share the same values. What I love about Minnie is the fact that she embodies happiness, self-expression, authenticity and that she inspires people of all ages around the world,” she continues.
The new design has had mixed reviews as Minnie Mouse has had the same look for many years, unless she has had a themed look for a celebration. An example of this is back in 2019 when she was dressed as “Captain Minnie Mouse” for Disney Cruise Line. The new look is “a symbol of progress for a new generation,” says McCartney. This is a celebration of not only Disneyland Paris making it’s 30 years, but Minnie will also be wearing her new blue suit throughout March to honor Women’s History Month. March 8 celebrates International Women’s Rights Day and this universal look is a representation of how far women have come.
The Walt Disney Co. and McCartney will also be releasing a unique Minnie Mouse T-shirt, available online and in Stella Stores in March. Great work from McCartney and her team as they have giving Minnie the makeover she deserves.
