Naomi Osaka’s Docuseries Picked up By Netflix

Naomi Osaka joins the Netflix family as the streaming service has picked up an untitled docuseries on the tennis superstar. According to Deadline, the docuseries follows the life of the two-time Grand Slam champion, who became the first Asian player to reach the number 1 singles ranking after winning her first Grand Slam at the U.S. Open in 2018 and second at the Australian Open in 2019.

Osaka pokes at the collaboration on her twitter account saying, “Hey @uninterrupted wanna make a @netflix doc?”

Aside from her tennis accomplishments and hectic travel schedule, the documentary will explore her journey to self-discovery, her life outside of sports and her travels back to Japan to give fans a deeper knowledge of her connections with the country she represents, and the reflections of her multi-cultural identity.

“To be able to tell my story and let people in during this big year, working with a team that really understands me, has been a rewarding experience,” said Osaka. “It won’t look like a traditional sports documentary, and I’m so excited to share it with everyone.” Said Osaka in a statement.

Osaka is currently ranked tenth in the world by the Women’s Tennis Association. Netflix hasn’t provided any information on a release date or title for the series but what we do know is that the series is presented in association with Uninterrupted, an athlete empowerment brand founded by LeBron James and Maverick Carter, and produced by Endeavor Content-owned Film 45. The doc will be directed by Garrett Bradley, who recently won best director for her U.S documentary feature in competition “Time”.
