Roger Goodell the commissioner of the National Football League and the NFL have pledged to donate $250 million to fight racism and social injustice, according to TMZ.

The NFL released a statement on it’s website saying the donation will be given in increments in the span of 10 years. The statement stated, “The money will go toward charities and organizations designed to combat systemic racism and support the battle against injustices faced by African Americans.”

The organization also announced that the league is willing to work with blackballed NFL player Colin Kaepernick, who faced a lot of backlash in the past for his stance, to help bring awareness to social injustice.

Kaepernick has been a free agent since 2016 after he kneeled during the national anthem to bring awareness to police brutality, something he talked about countlessly in many interviews.

An unknown source told NFL.com that Kaepernick helped the company open their eyes to the systematic problem. “We wouldn’t be where we are today without the work Colin and other players have led off.” They continued by saying, “it would be awesome to engage Colin on some of the work we are doing. He’s doing real impactful work. Getting him in some way would be amazing for us. There’s a lot of work to do to get to that point. We’re certainly open and willing to do that.”

According to NFL.com, the league has also agreed to work with players to “address criminal justice reform, police reform and economic and educational advancement for African Americans.”

This comes a week after Goodell issued a statement apologizing to how they handled kneeling in the past amid George Floyd’s protest.
