LeBron James loves to keep the students foot wear fresh at his self made I Promise School in Akron, OH. Back in October 2018, James donated his signature Nike LeBron 16s sneakers to over 800 students at the school. Now, James and Nike plan to release the Nike LeBron 17 inspired by the I Promise School in late January 2020. According to Fox8 the shoes features the LeBron James Family Foundation crown logo with the phrase, “I promise I will dream big” on the laces. “The LEBRON 17 I Promise is inspired by the I Promise School in Akron, Ohio, fueled by LeBron James’ commitment to improve education in his hometown,” Nike said in a press release announcing the shoe. “His passionate optimism is characterized in the shoe’s colorful, kaleidoscopic upper and outsole.”
The I Promise School was opened in 2018 by the LeBron James Family Foundation and Akron Public Schools. Since opening, the school has been changing the face of urban education for their two hundred and forty 3rd and 4th grade students. The school focuses on STEM education and providing support programs for families. The culture is built on “Habits of promise”, perseverance, perpetual learning, partnering and perspective that every students to commits to memory. With standardized test scores rising and evidence of behavioral improvement in the students, The I Promise school is expected to expand through 10th grade in 2022.
