The New York based non-profit organization, ‘Hip Hop Public Health’ was founded in 2006 to focus on shedding light on health equity while incorporating art, music and science. Hip Hop Health has recenty releases trilogies of COVID related music videos to raise awareness. Recently there has been a third segment added into the trilogies, by the name of ‘Behind The Mask’.

The trilogies have become viral anthems focused around the importance of proper hand washing and hygiene tips that helps keep us safe. With the spread of COVID-19 continuing to rise, it was only right to emphasize the correct and appropriate techniques used to decrease the spread of the virus.

“There is unequivocal supporting evidence that masks reduce the spread of COVID-19, and this is related to the scientific consensus that the infection can occur from inhaling droplets containing the virus,” a quote from Dr. Olajide Williams.

‘Behind The Mask’ is centered around show casing the proper mask wearing techniques. Hip Hop Health still wanted to raise awareness but also keep things creative and catchy to create emotional connections and powerful messages to keep audiences informed. ‘Behind the Mask’ was written by HHPH Co-founder/rapper, Doug E. Fresh, composer Quennel Worthy, and features Raheem DeVaughn, followed by Grammy award winning rapper Darryl DMC McDaniels from Run-DMC.

HHPH presents love as the overall theme in the ‘Behind The Mask’ video. “Our actions or inactions can dangerously impact those we love, and how, from behind the mask, we are promoting community and neighborhood health, while protecting and saving the lives of our loved ones and those with whom we come into contact daily,” said the non-profit.
