The Queens of R&B came threw with the virtual show of the summer!
Legendary singers Brandy and Monica came together on August 31 to perform for a much anticipated Verzuz battle. The iconic singers faced off to test their hits head-to-head, discussed their feud from back in the 90s, and welcomed VP nominee Kamala Harris.
Here is the rundown on what happened:
Before it began, they both honored the late actor Chadwick Boseman who sadly passed away on August 28 due to cancer. Then, Vice President candidate Kamala Harris made a video appearance to thank both singers for using this platform to support the ‘When We All Vote’ registration initiative.
Finally, they moved on to the main event, the music! The challenging Verzuz was an even battle for fans as both artists took over the 90s with their multiple hits. They reached a record breaking 1.2 Million viewers.
Brandy sang hits like “What About Us”, “He Is”, “Full Moon”, “I Wanna Be Down”, “Baby”, and a lot more.
Monica performed “Why I love You So Much”, “Still Standing”, “Commitment”, “The First Night”, and also shared a new song called “Trenches” featuring Lil Baby.
The ladies spoke to each other between harmonizing songs about their early music career feud. “I really am a straight shooter and I really do admire what you do musically,” Monica said. Brandy responded, “I just need you to know that I have the upmost love and respect for you, no matter the times where it seemed like I didn’t.”
It ended, of course, with “The Boy Is Mine,” which came out in 1998.
The artist even teased and promised an upcoming tour. Fans would have to wait post COVID-19 for the epic tour, but we’re still excited nonetheless.
