Samuel L. Jackson and Danny Glover Will be Honored at the 2022 Oscars

Actor Samuel L. Jackson will be presented with an honorary Oscar during the 2022 ceremony while Danny Glover will take home the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.

“We are thrilled to present this year’s Governors Awards to four honorees who have had a profound impact on both film and society,” Academy President David Rubin said in a statement.

Jackson and Glover aren’t the only ones being presented an award by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Elaine May and Liv Ullmann will also be receiving honorary Oscars at the 12th Governors Award in January 2022.

“Sam Jackson is a cultural icon whose dynamic work has resonated across genres and generations and audiences worldwide,” said Rubin. He added “and Danny Glover’s decades-long advocacy for justice and human rights reflects his dedication to recognizing our shared humanity on and off the screen.”

The awards will be presented on January 15 in Los Angeles, and according to People, the presentation will be in an untelevised ceremony separate from the actual awards. The Academy Awards ceremony will take place on March 27, 2022, a month later than the original date of February 22, 2022.

Nominees for each category will be announced on February 8, and the Oscars nominee luncheon is scheduled for March 7.

The Oscars shortlist will be announced on December 21 while the Governors Awards will take place on January 15.
