Spike Lee created a new visual version of Michael Jackson‘s ”They Don’t Care About Us” to honor the late King of Pop on what would’ve been his 62nd birthday.
The updated “They Don’t Care About Us” music video combines scenes from the two previous videos, which were also shot by the acclaimed director, and new footage from Black Lives Matter protest around the globe.
“Great protest songs can’t get old, stale or non-relevant because the struggle still continues,” Lee says in a statement. “That’s why THEY DON’T REALLY CARE ABOUT US is the anthem during this chaotic, pandemic world we are living in.”
The updated ‘They Dont Care About Us’ was first released during Lee’s annual Brooklyn Love Michael Jackson Block Party Saturday, Aug 29th. The event was head virtually due to the ongoing global pandemic.
