The money moves just keep on coming!

The VMAs made a miscalculation by booking Cardi B as a pre-show performer, despite the excitement surrounding her dwarfing that of the great majority of the acts who played at the show proper. In addition, her smash “Bodak Yellow” did not garner her a single nomination at the 2017 awards, leaving the main telecast entire Cardi-less. This year, MTV appears to be course-correcting. Cardi is the year’s most-nominated artist, including nods for both artist of the year and best new artist, as well as video of the year, song of the year and best collaboration for her Bruno Mars team-up “Finesse (Remix).” She’s also nominated in both the best hip-hop (the 21 Savage-featuring “Bartier Cardi”) and the best Latin (the Jennifer Lopez and DJ Khaled collab “Dinero”) categories, insuring that her presence will be all over the VMAs this August. Whether she’s performing or not is yet to be seen, but if she does, she’ll certainly have a wide array of hits to choose from.

The 2018 MTV Video Music Awards are to be held on August 20, 2018 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The 35th annual award show will air live from the venue for the 12th time, the most of any previous venue in its history. The nominees were revealed on July 16, 2018 via an IGTV video, Cardi B has the most nominations with 10, with The Carters (Beyoncé and Jay-Z) behind her with 8. Childish Gambino and Drake both received 7 nominations each.
