When you hear the name Tiffany Haddish the first thing that may come to mind is her comedy. Well not anymore! The “Girls Trip” actress is stepping into a more serious roll as she joins Octavia Spencer and others on the “Madam CJ Walker” series. According to RollingOut, the limited Netflix series “Madame CJ Walker” follows the life of philanthropist and hair-care entrepreneur Madam CJ Walker, Born Sarah Breedlove to former Louisiana slaves in 1867. Walker built a beauty empire selling hair care products for black women and has been widely indicated as the first African American women to become a self-made millionaire.
Haddish is set to play Lelia Walker, Walkers daughter with her first late husband. Also to join the cast is Carmen Ejogo, Blair Underwood, Kevin Carroll and Garrett Netflix announced on Tuesday. The series is set to launch next year and is inspired by the book “On Her Own Ground: The Life and Times of Madam C.J. Walker,” by A’Leila Bundles, Walker’s great-great-granddaughter
Spencer will play Madam C.J Walker and Executive Produce the limited series alongside LeBron James, Maverick Carter and Jamal Henderson via their production company, Springhill Entertainment. Christine Holder and Mark Holder will also serve as executive producers.
