You Go Gurl!: 5th Grade Teacher, Triana Davis Recognized as Mazda Hero

Sometimes the biggest heroes are your neighbors living right next door.

Motor development corporation, Mazda, is a multinational automaker who made it a mission to recognize everyday people for their philanthropy in the community. Mazda is celebrating its 100th Anniversary, and in honor of this milestone Mazda is honoring the human spirit by giving back to those who’ve given their all to their community. Up to 50 people nationwide will be a special part of its history.

“This year has been full of challenges and we wanted to lean into our brand’s heritage of finding innovative ways to brighten people’s lives,” Mazda North American Operations President Jeff Guyton said. “We were inspired to create the Mazda Heroes program to honor all those who are working tirelessly to uplift their own communities. We hope through Mazda’s acknowledgment of their efforts, they’ll feel empowered to continue to give back to those around them.”

During their search they found elementary school teacher Triana Davis of Byram, MS. Her joy for reaching has touched the lives of many families who have been struggling during this critical pandemic.

The ‘Mazda Heroes: Honoring The Human Spirit’ program (Mazda Heroes), is shining a spotlight on this 5th grade teacher who made remote learning a joy for her students. During these troubling times, parents and students are frustrated about the changes. Triana created and personally delivered custom curriculum to her students facing this situation to keep her students engaged.

It doesn’t stop there. She has truly been a gift to these children who have lost their motivation. With all the traditional school events cancelled in efforts to adhere to CDC regulations, it’s hard not to loose motivation in school. Desiring to turn that mindset around, she encouraged her students even when they missed out on the traditions of graduation. She never missed and opportunity to check-in her 21 students. On top of hand delivering work packets to each student, Triana also created special commemorative t-shirts, goodie bags, and custom-engraved medals.

Triana was overwhelmed with emotions upon discovering her wife, Jemetria Hunter-Davis, nominated her for this honor. Davis stated, “I’m just a person, I’m just a teacher. I’m not more special than any other teacher.” And no Triana, you are more than that, you are a hands-on educator, a solution finder, and a hometown hero!

Wednesday, December 2nd at 9am EST, Triana will be nationally recognized as a MAZDA HERO.
