On October 6th, 2019, Katrina “Trina” Taylor was honored at The Power 50 X Black Music Moguls brunch in Atlanta, Ga. The third annual Power 50 and Black Music Moguls honoree brunch was the official kick off for A3C weekend happening in Atlanta October 8th – 13th, 2019.
“We are super excited to be honoring Trina, especially at this time where women are running hip hop. Trina definitely has paved the way for a lot of women in hip hop,” Emma Jackson (Co-Producer) states, “This honor is well overdue and we are happy to be the ones to give her the flowers she deserves.”
Trina attended the award ceremony and was accompanied by many friends and family. Before giving her accepted speech, Trina instantly burst into tears. “I’m grateful, I’m humble, I’m just…I’m empty inside. But I’m standing here because I feel so filled with everybody who came out today. ” Trina lost her mother, Vernessa ‘Nessa’ Taylor, back in September to a battle against cancer. Although Trina tried to hold it together during the award ceremony, it was obvious that the hip hop icon was still grieving over her lost.
“Everybody that sent a special shout outs and all the women that I inspire my whole entire career, sometimes I have no idea how I even did it. I always just kept going, put one step forward and anyways stay true to myself. Everything is not always pretty in this industry, everything isn’t always what you see, its not glam and glits; it’s a lot of darkness, it’s a lot of dark roles, it’s a lot of trials and tribulations you just gotta believe in yourself and believe that you can make it through all of this, and just stay true to you and follow your dreams. When they say no, you just figure out a way to find a yes.”
The event was powered by Power 50, Courvoisier Cognac, Iberia Bank, and Black Music Moguls. Congratulations to the icon Trina on her award as our hearts are with her during this heart-felt time in her career.
