What y’all know about ….

After a seven year long lawsuit over Usher’s “Bad Girl” track, Daniel Marino wins big and his pockets just got $44.35 million heavier! The recent ruling came just a week and a half after Usher released his new project with producer Zaytoven on Oct, 1.

The lawsuit began in 2011 against Usher and 20 other defendants after a similar sounding record appeared on the diamond- certified album but songwriter Daniel Marino wasn’t given any credit.

Between 2001 and 2002, Marino curated a song titled “Club Girl” which inspired Usher’s renown single. The standout track from Usher’s 2004 “Confessions” album was influenced and originated by Marino. The Philadelphia native states that he created majority of the song’s tempo, guitar hook, and chord progression.

According to the Associated Press, Marino’s former co-writer, William Guice, was ordered to payout $6.75 million in compensatory damages along with $20.25 million in punitive damages at the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas last week. Co-defendant Dante Barton, owner of Destro Music Productions, was also ordered to pay Marino $17.35 million, bringing the lawsuit’s total to $44.35 million. The wins don’t stop there though, as deserved –  Daniel Marino now owns one-third of the rights to the song. The tremendously talented songwriter is now getting the recognition and compensation he deserves!
