Will Smith will be hosting the forthcoming document series of Netflix’s Amend: The Fight For America, where the 14th amendment will be explored for the true meaning, and how it applies to different people.
The series does a dip dive into unity, values, and the meaning of “liberty and justice for all,” with narrative presentations and, insight from leaders and experts who will be sharing their insights. According to Hypebeast, Mahershala Ali, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Samuel L. Jackson, Pedro Pascal, and Yara Shahidi will be reading the works of the minds who were heavily involved (both positively and negatively) with the Fourteenth Amendment.
“We are living in unprecedented days as a society, as a country, and as a human family,” Will Smith told DEADLINE, “I believe that the cultivation of personal and historical understanding is the imperative spark igniting the flames of desperately needed compassion and healing. As Americans, we endeavor to form a more perfect union that truly establishes justice and equality for all. I believe a deeper understanding of the 14th Amendment is a critical jumping-off point.”
The series was created by Robe Imbriano and Tom Yellin. Executively producer by Smith alongside Larry Wilmore.
“Our hope with this series is to illuminate the beauty that is the promise of America and to share a message of connection and shared humanity so that we will be able to better understand and celebrate our different experiences as Americans and promote progress toward the true equality promised to all persons under the 14th amendment.”
The upcoming six-part series will ask the question, “What does it mean to be American?” and is set to premiere on February 17 on Netflix. See the trailer below.
