Women of color are the 2019 titleholders of Miss Universe, Miss USA, Miss Teen USA, and Miss America!

Black women have taken over the beauty pageant world and are not leaving anytime soon. Miss USA, Miss Tern USA, Miss American, and now Miss Universe are the top beauty pageant winners have been crowned in the same year for the first time ever. For over a decade now, the top beauty pageant winners have mostly been white women. During the 1920s, Black women were not allowed to participate in beauty pageants. We can now say that the time has changed and history has been made. 

Miss South Africa, Zozibini Tunzi, joined the group of black queens on Sunday December 8 as she was crowned Miss Universe 2019. 

Miss USA 2019, Cheslie Kryst at 28 years old became the oldest person to be crowned Miss USA. She received the crown on Thursday, May 2 at the Reno Tahoe’s Grand Sierra Resort and Casino’s Grand Theatre. 

Miss America 2019, Nia Franklin was crowned as Miss America 2019 on Sunday, September 9, 2018.

Miss Teens USA, Kaliegh Garris was crowned on April 28, 2019. 

These beautiful black queens has given women of color hope that we should be confident in our skin and originality. As we look forward to Miss World 2019, which is set to hold on December 14, 2019 at the ExCeL London in London, we wish nothing but the best of luck to all women of color.
