‘Women of the Movement’ Tells the Story of Emmett Till’s Mother Fighting For His Justice

The wait is over! As JaGurl TV previously reported Jay-Z and Will Smith executive produced a new ABC series about women activist, and it’s finally here. After 67 years since the death of 14 year-old Emmett Till, it’s time for the world to hear the story from a different perspective. “Women of the Movement” is a six part limited serious based on the true story of Mamie Till Mobley (played by Adrienne Warren), the mother of Emmett Till (played by Cedric Joe) and her fight for her sons justice.

As the news around Emmett Tills murder began to disappear in 1955, Mobley took her pain and turned it into activism. She became a part of the civil rights movement and fought her entire life for her sons justice.

The series is produced by Kapital Entertainment and created by Marissa Jo Cerar, who also serves as executive producer and showrunner. Other executive producers include Aaron Kaplan, Dana Honor and Michael Lohmann for Kapital Entertainment; Shawn Carter, Jay Brown and Tyran “Ty Ty” Smith for Roc Nation; Will Smith and James Lassiter for Westbrook; Rosanna Grace for Serendipity Group Inc.; Alex Foster and John Powers Middleton for Middleton Media Group; David Clark for Mazo Partners; and Gina Prince-Bythewood.

“Women of the Movement” premieres January 6th, 2022 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
