Yara Shahidi Pays Homage to Her Diverse Roots in Colorful Adidas Collab

Adidas Originals and actress Yara Shahidi collaborate to create a colorful collection inspired by Shahidi’s Iranian and African American heritage.

“I’m incredibly excited to have the opportunity to partner with Adidas Originals as a creator,” the Grown-ish actress says in a press release. “I have always viewed clothing and footwear as incredible tools with which we navigate the world in our own particular way, so to be able to design my own collections with the brand has been truly special.”

The collection includes two classic Adidas tracksuits infused with bold 1960’s inspired prints and eclectic upgrades, paired with a colorful twist to Adidas iconic sneaker.

The sneaker’s signature 3-stripes and heel tab are brown, cream, and yellow suede. In the sole of the shoe is the word “yar,” derived from Yara’s name, which means “friend” in Arabic.

The collection pays homage to activists and world leaders who have inspired the multifaceted actress.

“My first instinct was how do we honor the past in a way that also pays homage to the future,” Shahidi tells Harper Bazaar. “The one thing that I wanted people to take away was even though a lot of these details are specific to my own growing up and the things that impacted me, the entire campaign is about how we re-create our heritage. I’m constantly figuring out what it means to be Black and Iranian-it’s ever-changing.”

The collection features embroidered Farsi scripts, iconic 60’s silhouettes, and an array of golds and yellows. Click here, to shop Adidas Originals by Yara Shahidi.
